…just like any other momentous occasion–the first walk on the moon, the first woman on the supreme court, or the first olympics–the start of the HarperCollins Volleyball season always begins with a small rumble that builds into a mighty roar until there is just no stopping it and all must either bow down to our might or get run over.

January 23rd saw the first match of the season between HarperCollins FKOD and the Independent Party. Game one heralded not only the arrival of new warriors (Kat, Dave), but also marked the beginning of the new rule changes–you may now serve receive with open hands. Ohhhh Ahhhh. For examples on this rule, please see Ervin who has embraced this new development with open hands and an open heart.

Anyway, game one got off to a bang as Dan, Kat, and Travis decided to unleash serves of doom, which the competiton had no chance of returning. Combined with Julie and Ervin at the net, game one was quickly ours.

Game two, of course had the prerequist Harper sillyness which soon saw the enemy leading! Oh no, say it isn’t so!! Alas, but I’m afraid it was, Harper was loosing. This development didn’t sit well with the troops, so a summit (fancy name for time-out) was called to address the issue.

Game three…what? You want to know what happened in game two? Oh well, that’s easy Harper won. After the summit, Whitney decided to reign serve upon serve down upon them and Julie decided she wasn’t going to take it anymore and spiked like a mad woman. Harper managed a thrilling win as we came from behind to snatch victory away from the other party in a stunning 14-16 win.

Game three was a clear Harper dominance from the start. With the setting stylings of Dave, the spiking of Kat and Ervin the game was quickly ours.

Come follow our heroes as they move on to the next battle.

Unfortunately, this battle wasn’t as climatic as the first night. On January 30th, six amazon warriors prepared to battle the vicious Spiked! However, Spiked! must have heard we were coming and cowered in fear. As only three opponents showed and the battle became a “friendly”. However, all three wins went to HarperCollins (naturally).

So now, Harper is tied for 1st place!! The real battle will commence this Thursday, February 7th as we take on the other 1st place team. OHHHHHHHH!!! A real nail bitter isn’t it? You’ll just have to check back to find out how we dispatch them down to second place.

GO HARDCORE!!!
